Helping Fathers Prevail

At Norma Beedle (APLC), a fathers rights firm located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, we know that the U.S. Constitution, the Louisiana Constitution, and both state and federal law guarantee equal, gender-neutral treatment for fathers. We are here to aggressively advocate on behalf of divorced and unmarried fathers in all issues related to child support, child custody and parenting.

Since fathers are usually the parent shouldering much of the monetary responsibility after a divorce or paternity action, calculating a fair and accurate child support payment is essential. Norma Beedle is committed to helping fathers with all of their child support needs, concerns and questions.

Qualifications For Income When Calculating Child Support Payment Obligations

Under the Louisiana child support guidelines, these are some income types that are typically taken into account when the family courts calculate child support payments:

  • Wages, salary, bonuses, commissions, and employment-related reimbursements
  • Military pay and benefits, including BAS
  • Overtime pay received regularly
  • SSDI and other disability payments, and workers' compensation benefits
  • Unemployment insurance
  • Capital gains, dividends, and interest
  • Payments from annuities
  • Spousal support received from pre-existing spousal support obligations

Claiming Children As Dependents On Taxes To And Claim The Child Tax Credit

If you have a divorce decree, it may specify the answers to these questions. Otherwise, if your contribution to the total support of your child or children is 50 percent or more, you may qualify to claim your children for tax purposes if you satisfy both of the following conditions:

  • You owe no back child support (arrears). You do not qualify for the tax deduction if you are delinquent on any child support payment.
  • Claiming the deduction would substantially benefit you without significantly harming the other parent.
